The Chorus
Audio installation. 30mins.
First presented October 2017 at DISKURS ’17, Institute for Applied Theatre Studies, Gießen, Germany.

The Chorus reconstructs a recording of a dawn chorus, with human's poor mimicry substituting each of the birds' warbles, squawks and whistles.
Some of the Chorus belongs to a clichéd image of authentic rural life; other sounds emerge as perplexing gurgles and hums. The formally simple proposition grows into a complex cacophony that exposes the limits of the human voice, mouth and throat as they contort to achieve increasingly ambitious substitutions.
